AI Etana, also known as AI Escargot, was created and released by Arto Inkala, a Finnish Mathematician on November 6th, 2006. At the time it was hailed as the world's hardest sudoku, though in following months it was soon surpassed by others. AI Etana stands out, however, in that it made world headlines and ushered in a new era of extremely difficult sudoku puzzles.
